As well as operating a dedicated Crisis Care Line, we also provide the following functions:

  • We will offer urgent next day mental health assessments when this has been identified following an initial triage, and is the most helpful intervention for the children and young people.
  • We offer ward based assessments of children and young people who have been admitted to hospital in an emergency, either for treatment following an episode of self-harm, or for their safety.
  • We will endeavour see all children and young people, with the person who holds Parental Responsibility, within 24 hours of receiving a referral from a health professional.

* Young people aged 16 to 18th birthday are supported by Alder Hey CAMHS Service in crisis care and talking therapies; however more urgent/emergency mental health presentations are assessed by our colleagues in Mersey Care.

You should still call 999 or go to A&E if you have an immediate, life-threatening emergency requiring mental or physical health assistance.
